NSGA Needs YOUR HELP!

10th January 2022 by NSGA

As you may or may not know, John and I both took over running the Nottinghamshire Schools Golf Association some 8 years or so ago whilst our boys were keen juniors as the previous Organiser’s boys became too old and he wanted to relinquish the role.

Like the previous organiser whose children had finished secondary education, John and I are now both in the situation that our boys haven’t been eligible for 3 years and with the various responsibilities we both now have, we would like to pass the baton on.

In terms of what’s required, the main competition is the Stroke Play, which decides who makes it through to the Midlands Finals at the end of May. There is some basic administration with England Schools Golf, who we pay a fee to, and they handle all the legal, insurance and other compliance administration so it’s really only one event to organise.

As part of our England Golf affiliation, competitions are run using Intelligent Golf which makes submitting, publishing and updating scores at the Stroke Play really easy and you don’t need to worry about handicaps, countbacks or anything like that as the software does all that.

We also normally run a Match Play competition during the summer for those keen to play. We make the draw from the entries and the players arrange their own fixtures then notify us of the results so other than keeping scores and the draw updated, the event runs itself.

All in all, running the Association really isn’t an onerous task – we have found it easier as it’s both John and me but one person can handle all we have had to do.

In terms of this year, the date and venue of the Stroke Play are sorted so other than sending out the details and receiving entries and payments, all is really done. That said, John and I are both willing to help anyone taking over so they won’t be left to it. We can help with all the admin and details for the entries this year and will be at the event on the day so no one will be left in the lurch.

Personally, I have to say I’ve really enjoyed running the Association and seeing so many Nottinghamshire Schools players do so well. We’ve had several boys and girls winning both Midlands and National tournaments at U16 and U18 age groups and have been delighted to see several represent England Schools against both Wales and Scotland.

If you are interested and wanted to discuss anything, please feel free to call me on 07895049461 or drop John or me an email on info@nsga.co.uk.

Kind regards,

Hamish & John
